Amelia Earhart achieved many things during her life, such as, being the first woman to fly the Atlantic
ocean in 1928, and breaking the women's altitude record which was 14,000 (4.2 km) ft that time. She was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, which was a cross for,"heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight." Amelia Earhart has many monuments, tributes and memorials in her name. The Earhart light (above) is a day navigator beacon on Howland Island that has been dedicated towards her. Amelia Earhart also has a part of a few buildings dedicated to her. There is a wildlife sanctuary built at one of her landing sites in Northern Ireland, an airport, and a residence hall at Purdue University.
